In a heartfelt announcement, LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo revealed that he will resign from his role at the conclusion of the 2025 MLS season, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in his coaching career.

Cherundolo expressed gratitude for his time with LAFC, stating, "It is an honor to be the head coach of LAFC. After much thought and discussion with my family, we’ve decided to return to Germany after this season. I love Los Angeles and LAFC, but this choice is what’s best for my family. I look forward to helping the team succeed as we aim for more trophies in our final season together."

Since taking the reins in January 2022, Cherundolo has been nothing short of phenomenal. He made history by becoming the first MLS coach to win both the Supporters' Shield and MLS Cup in their inaugural season, a feat that galvanized the franchise and its passionate fan base. In just three years, he has claimed three major trophies and boasts an impressive record of 87 wins, 43 losses, and 26 ties across all competitions.

John Thorrington, LAFC Co-President & General Manager, praised Cherundolo's leadership: "Steve has been an exceptional leader for LAFC and is among the top coaches in the league. His achievements speak volumes. We fully support his decision to prioritize family and remain committed to winning championships in this final stretch of the season. Ending his tenure with another trophy would be a fitting tribute to his legacy."

In an extraordinary second season, Cherundolo guided LAFC to both the Concacaf Champions League and MLS Cup finals, further solidifying his reputation as a tactician of exceptional caliber. In 2024, he led the team to the top seed in the Western Conference and became the seventh-fastest coach to achieve 50 regular-season wins in MLS history.

LAFC Lead Managing Owner Bennett Rosenthal showered Cherundolo with gratitude, stating, "Building a relationship with Steve over the years has been a pleasure. He has strengthened the foundation of the Black & Gold standard, and we wish him all the best as he embarks on this new chapter with his family. Steve will always be a valued member of the LAFC family."
