The Syrian military has branded these rebels as "terrorists" and claims to be engaging in a fierce battle to repel what they describe as a "large-scale" attack. According to sources from a UK-based monitoring organization, more than 180 combatants have perished on both sides amidst escalating clashes. Additionally, tragic reports indicate that at least 19 civilians have lost their lives due to airstrikes carried out by Syrian and Russian forces targeting opposition-held territories.

As of Thursday, reports indicate that the rebel forces have suffered substantial losses, with 121 fighters—mostly from HTS—killed, contrasted against the deaths of 40 government troops and 21 militiamen. Notably, a Telegram statement from the rebels claimed the capture of Khan al-Assal, a critical town just 5 km from Aleppo, and they boast of eliminating over 200 members of pro-government forces.

In response to the unfolding crisis, a Syrian military statement reaffirmed their commitment to combating what they portray as a terrorist assault, though they have not disclosed their own troop losses. Alarmingly, Iranian news outlets have reported the death of Brig. Gen. Kioumars Pourhashemi, a senior commander in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, who was serving as a military adviser in Syria.
