In an exciting development for the travel industry, the Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) welcomed 100 new travel agent members at a dynamic workshop held at Hong Kong's cutting-edge Kai Tak Cruise Terminal. This significant event took place in partnership with the Hong Kong Travel Agent Owners Association (HKTAOA) and Worldwide Cruise Terminal (WCT), with crucial support from Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), underscoring the collaborative spirit of the cruise sector.

The workshop was a treasure trove of insights for Hong Kong travel agents, covering the latest trends and opportunities emerging within the global cruise industry, particularly in the thriving Asian markets. Peter Kollar, CLIA’s head of international training & development, spearheaded engaging training sessions that not only enhanced the agents’ knowledge of cruises but also sharpened their sales strategies.

A standout feature of the event was an interactive tour of the Kai Tak Cruise Terminal and an immersive experience aboard the Norwegian Spirit, where participants explored modern cruise offerings first-hand. “This workshop embodies the escalating interest in cruising among Hong Kong travel agents,” stated Kollar. He emphasized the importance of equipping these professionals with the tools they need to better serve their clients and tap into the expanding cruise sector.

Highlighting the growing significance of Hong Kong as a global cruise hub, Jeff Bent, managing director of Worldwide Cruise Terminal, noted, “We are thrilled to have CLIA back in 2024 for this pivotal initiative. The presence of qualified travel agents who can recommend the ideal cruises for their clients is essential for the long-term success of the market. CLIA’s industry-leading training provided participants with a robust introduction and the chance for ongoing education.”

The newly onboarded agents are now part of CLIA’s 2025 Asian Membership program, gaining access to a wealth of professional development opportunities, including extensive educational courses, online resources, and the chance to achieve recognition through the CLIA Certification Program. They will also have the opportunity to network and attend CLIA events globally, paving the way for enhanced career growth and client service.

In a world where the travel landscape is constantly evolving, this event marks a transformative moment for the cruise industry in Hong Kong. Will these agents capitalize on the booming cruise market? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the cruise industry's future is looking brighter than ever! Stay tuned for more updates as these new members set sail on their exciting journey in the cruise sector.
