Dane Jackson Takes the Helm as Head Coach of North Dakota Hockey Program

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – In an exciting development for the University of North Dakota hockey program, Director of Athletics Bill Chaves announced on Saturday night that Dane Jackson has been appointed as the 17th head coach in the team's history. This pivotal move signals a new chapter for the Fighting Hawks and their passionate fan base.

"Tonight, I could not be happier to announce Dane Jackson as our next head coach," stated Chaves. “Dane showcased a comprehensive vision for navigating today’s Division I athletics landscape, and we are eager to support his ambitious goals for the program.”

Jackson's impressive 19-year tenure with UND has seen him serve as both an assistant and associate head coach, where he primarily developed the team's forwards and specialized in the penalty kill unit. Under his guidance, UND's penalty-killing units consistently ranked among the nation's elite, a testament to his skill as a coach.

“I am very humbled and appreciative of the opportunity to become the next leader of the North Dakota hockey program,” Jackson remarked. As a former standout player for North Dakota, Jackson’s personal ties to the program run deep. He played for the Fighting Hawks from 1988 to 1992 and was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks, showcasing his impressive potential as both a player and leader. Following his college career, he enjoyed an 11-year professional playing stint across several NHL teams, where he also earned accolades such as the Leadership and Dedication Award.

Jackson was selected from an impressive pool of candidates, including finalists Matt Smaby, Jason Herter, and Nick Fohr. His profound knowledge of the game and extensive coaching experience positioned him as the ideal choice for this prestigious role.
