On Wednesday, Michigan's head football coach, Sherrone Moore, celebrated a significant achievement as he wrapped up his first national signing day with a remarkable recruiting class that ranks among the nation's top 10. This class is notably highlighted by the nation’s No. 1 prospect, positioning Michigan for a promising future.
The Wolverines, boasting substantial momentum leading up to Wednesday, bolstered their class with the addition of two more standout recruits. Four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and three-star defensive lineman Travis Moten joined an impressive lineup, elevating Michigan from outside the top 15 to an impressive 7th overall ranking.
Among the 23 commitments, only two remain unsigned: four-star tight end Andrew Olesh from Center Valley, Pennsylvania, and four-star cornerback Jayden Sanders from Kilgore, Texas. Sanders appears likely to stick with the Wolverines, while Olesh, a top-100 recruit, is reportedly considering delaying his decision until Friday amidst interest from Oregon and Penn State.
Even without Olesh, Michigan has already secured five top-100 recruits, a notable improvement from previous cycles where they managed to acquire just one. The Wolverines also have their eyes set on five-star edge Ty Haywood, who is currently committed to Alabama but could potentially flip to Michigan in time for the February signing window.
Defensively, Michigan is taking a solid approach, with 11 out of the 21 signees being defensive prospects. This year's class features recruits hailing from 14 different states, with a particular emphasis on Michigan and Florida, each contributing four recruits. Notably, three of the Florida prospects came from the renowned IMG Academy in Bradenton.
As the extended signing window continues, here’s an overview of Michigan’s exciting 2025 signing class:
Bryce Underwood (Belleville, MI) - 5-star QB
National Rank: 1 Position Rank: 1 Underwood marks one of the program's most significant recruitment successes ever. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound star quarterback promises dynamic production, boasting a record of 179 total touchdowns, including 152 via the air in his high school career. Coach Moore sees him as a transformative addition, particularly following a less-than-ideal performance from 2024's quarterback lineup.
Andrew Babalola (Overland Park, KS) - 5-star OT
National Rank: 14 Position Rank: 3 At 6-foot-6 and 300 pounds, this athletic lineman possesses the potential for a high ceiling in the sport, having only played two years at the varsity level. His commitment in October instigated a wave of enthusiasm for Michigan, leading to subsequent successes in recruiting.
Nate Marshall (Oak Park, IL) - 4-star DL
National Rank: 55 Position Rank: 8 After briefly flipping his commitment to Auburn, Marshall returned to Michigan on the eve of signing day. His move to stay with the Wolverines came as a surprise, solidifying the team’s defensive strength.
Andrew Marsh (Fulshear, TX) - 4-star WR
National Rank: 70 Position Rank: 10 An invaluable asset for a struggling receiver corps, Marsh’s 1,172 yards on 65 receptions this season showcase his readiness to contribute immediately.
Shamari Earls (Chester, VA) - 4-star CB
National Rank: 86 Position Rank: 12 Despite missing his senior season due to injury, Earls’ considerable potential drew Michigan’s attention, leading to a successful recruitment from Georgia.
Kainoa Winston (Washington, D.C.) - 4-star S
National Rank: 110 Position Rank: 10 Winston’s speed and defensive capabilities make him a valuable addition to a modernizing secondary.
Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (IMG Academy) - 4-star LB
National Rank: 130 Position Rank: 14 Owusu-Boateng, who chose Michigan over several strong contenders, is expected to fortify the Wolverines’ defensive lineup.
Jordan Young (Monroe, NC) - 4-star ATH
National Rank: 150 Position Rank: 5 Young's versatility is highly coveted, bringing significant interception prowess to the defensive backfield.
Elijah Dotson (Belleville, MI) - 4-star S
National Rank: 190 Position Rank: 13 An intriguing recruit, Dotson’s two-way capabilities make him an exciting addition for the Wolverines.
Jacob Washington (Marrero, LA) - 4-star WR
National Rank: 207 Position Rank: 25 While the statistics may not reflect it, Washington’s potential on the field is seen as crucial to enhancing Michigan’s receiving options.
