From the tender age of seven, Turley showed a passion for baseball that was palpable. He would wake his father at dawn, insisting, 'Let’s go hit!' His early ambitions were matched by talent; during a pivotal game where he faced 9-year-olds, Turley famously pointed to the outfield before hitting a walk-off home run.

A Record Setter on the Horizon

Having already set the Arizona high school single-season home run record and arrived at Oregon State as the highest-ranked prep recruit, Turley made an immediate impact in college ball. Last Thursday, he surged to his 44th career home run against Cal State Northridge, moving him just one shy of the coveted record.

Strategy Meets Determination

Turley knows the importance of mental preparation. Watching teammate Travis Bazzana set the record with 28 home runs last season fueled his own ambitions. 'It was a huge part of my career,' Turley said. This led him to refine his approach, focusing on daily improvements rather than emotions.

Overcoming Early Season Struggles

This season didn’t start as smoothly as he’d hoped. After eight games, Turley had only one home run, which he attributes to a new hitting strategy focused on using the entire field. Although it led to early struggles, he committed to evolving his game.

His coaches highlighted the need for him to expand his hitting techniques. 'If he wants to achieve his goals, he needed to evolve,' Coach Mitch Canham stated.

His commitment paid off; he’s transformed into a well-rounded hitter, showcasing a remarkable ability to hit balls to right and right-center.

Now, Turley boasts an impressive .356 batting average, 11 homers, and 41 RBIs this season. After fighting through early-season droughts, he exploded for eight home runs in just 12 games, bringing him closer to the historic milestone.
