In a recent interview, Gunn revealed that the exhilarating aerial sequences in "Top Gun: Maverick" played a significant role in shaping how he approaches the depiction of flight in Superman's world. "I wrote a comprehensive document outlining our action philosophy, focusing on how we present movement both in the air and on the ground," Gunn shared. "Shooting aerial combat is a complex challenge, but we've implemented innovative techniques similar to how 'Top Gun' handles flying scenes."

Collaborating with some of the world’s best drone pilots, we’re able to create breathtaking visuals that maintain the excitement of real flight, which we've planned down to the smallest detail while also allowing for spontaneity on set."

The director's creative process also draws from a wide range of previous DC media, including Zack Snyder’s "Man of Steel" and the beloved comic series "All-Star Superman." "Every iteration of Superman has left its mark on my interpretation," Gunn mentioned. "While I find inspiration from Richard Donner's original films, my vision is distinct and diverges significantly. There’s a strong influence from the DC animated universe and a deep respect for the comic books, especially those that embrace a Silver Age aesthetic, incorporating imaginative gadgets and a more mystical interpretation of characters like Lex Luthor."

In this fresh take on the iconic characters, David Corenswet steps into the shoes of Superman (Clark Kent), while Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of the intrepid Lois Lane. Gunn hinted at an exploration of their relationship that he believes has not been adequately portrayed in past superhero narratives.
