In a surprising twist of events, actor Jason Isaacs is stirring the pot after Duke University publicly criticized the HBO show, The White Lotus, for a controversial scene featuring its logo. Isaacs, known for his role in the series, seemed unfazed and eager to add a dash of drama to the situation.
At the Season 3 finale event, Isaacs sported a Duke Blue Devils t-shirt, revealing he purchased it at Charlotte Airport after his flight was canceled. He quipped on the Prestige Junkie podcast, "I thought it might cause a little bit of mischief!" Clearly, he relished the chance to poke fun at the ongoing buzz.
The controversy ignited when Isaacs’ character, Timothy Ratliff, depicted a morbid daydream involving a murder-suicide while donning the Duke shirt. This prompted the university to label the scene as "troubling," stating it doesn't align with their values and goes too far. Isaacs, however, found the uproar amusing, suggesting it was a play for online attention.
He remarked, "It’s faintly amusing. I don’t like anyone getting upset about anything, but it seems someone was eager for a viral moment. With so many colorful alumni, it’s ridiculous to think a fictional character could trouble them so much."
Despite the backlash, Isaacs plans to keep the shirt, declaring, "It fits and I do love blue!" Unaware of the sports team's fierce reputation, he expressed, "I didn’t even know the Devil was their team! I thought it would be a fun addition for photos!"
In a playful tone, he even joked about the school’s athletic prowess, saying, "I don’t know if they’re known for baseball, football, or curling. I was hoping they’d invite me to sing the national anthem, but no dice! Maybe next time!"
As the drama unfolds, one thing's for sure: Jason Isaacs knows how to keep the spotlight shining brightly—even when it involves a bit of playful controversy!
