Jay Leno is proving that resilience is key, as he was spotted in high spirits following a scary incident over the weekend that left him with a nasty bruise and a broken wrist. The former "Tonight Show" host was seen enjoying lunch in Los Angeles on Thursday, showcasing a significant bruise on his face but opting to ditch the eyepatch that had previously obscured his injuries.

The Incident

The 74-year-old comedy legend suffered his injuries while staying at a hilltop hotel, where he decided to head down to a restaurant for a meal. With no car at his disposal, Leno thought he could save time by taking a shortcut down a steep hill rather than making the longer trek.

"I looked at the hill and thought it didn't look that steep—about 60 to 70 feet. I figured, why not?" he recounted in an interview with TMZ. But the quaint idea quickly turned into a misadventure as he lost his footing and tumbled down the hill, hitting his head on a rock in the process.

"I went down. Boom, boom, boom. I rolled down the hill and knocked my eye," he explained, adding that he emerged with a swollen eye, a broken wrist, and even lost a fingernail during the tumble.

Performing Through Pain

Against all odds, Leno managed to perform at the Palace Theater in Greensburg, Pennsylvania just three hours after the fall. "It was only a couple of hours before the show, so it’s not that big of a deal, it’s fine!" he said, showcasing his indomitable spirit.

Commitment to Recovery

Despite his injuries, Leno wasted no time in continuing his tour schedule, determined to meet his commitments. Interestingly, the proceeds from his recent performance were directed to the Grossman Burn Center, which played a critical role in his recovery from a near-fatal gasoline fire two years prior.

In that incident, Leno suffered severe third-degree burns while working on one of his beloved cars. Thanks to the incredible team at the burn center and several surgeries, he has since made a remarkable recovery. Leno humorously recounted his experience of transformation, joking about having a "brand-new face."
