In a dramatic move to tackle his recent on-course frustrations, Korn Ferry Tour veteran Ryan McCormick resorted to an unconventional tactic: taping his mouth shut during the competition. This bold decision came during the second round of the Club Car Championship at The Landings Golf & Athletic Club, as McCormick has been grappling with controlling his anger and hostility on the course.

Finishing with a second-round score of 72, McCormick ended the day a few strokes short of making the cut at 1-over 145. Despite the disappointment of missing the cut, his unique approach certainly made waves in coastal Georgia, highlighting the myriad of strategies golfers explore to enhance their performance.

Describing his struggles, McCormick stated, “I've had a not-so-fun time this year on the golf course. Pretty angry and mad, so I figured … I’ve tried a lot of things, and I just figured I’d just shut myself up.” The taped-up mouth was his last resort after numerous attempts to manage his emotions, including reading books and seeking advice from peers. “I felt like Bane, like Batman, muzzle myself,” he added, emphasizing that he did not want to disrupt his fellow competitors’ experiences while grappling with his own frustration.

Despite the hilarity of the situation, it was clear McCormick was looking for a solution. He jokingly noted, “Mostly just writing down the numbers,” highlighting the simplicity of communication with his playing partners during the round.

The year 2025 has proven to be challenging for McCormick, who lost his PGA TOUR card, finishing No. 161 in the 2024 FedExCup standings. He entered the Club Car Championship ranked No. 126 on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, and this missed cut will only exacerbate his struggles.

As the Korn Ferry Tour progresses, it remains to be seen whether McCormick will continue to use this peculiar method or find other ways to channel his emotions positively. Will this odd tactic pay off, or will it be just another anecdote in his turbulent golfing journey? Only time will tell, but for Ryan McCormick, all eyes will be on how he adapts to the pressures of competition ahead!
