In a heartfelt announcement, LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo shared his plans to step down at the conclusion of the 2025 season. Citing family considerations, Cherundolo expressed his intention to return to Germany, a decision reached after significant reflection and discussion with his loved ones.
Cherundolo remarked, "It is an honor to be the head coach of LAFC. I love Los Angeles and LAFC, but this move is in the best interest of my family." He looks forward to continuing his commitment to the team, aiming for a successful season filled with trophy aspirations.
Co-president and general manager John Thorrington praised Cherundolo’s leadership, stating, "Steve has proven to be one of the top coaches in our league. His achievements speak volumes, and we fully support his decision to focus on his family. Our goal remains unchanged: to win trophies this season."
Bennett Rosenthal, lead managing owner, added, "It has been a pleasure working alongside Steve. He has fortified the Black & Gold standard, and while we support his family’s move, he will always remain a cherished part of the LAFC family."
Currently, LAFC finds itself in eighth place in the Western Conference with a record of 4 wins, 4 losses, and no draws, tallying 12 points. The team faced a setback earlier this month, exiting the 2025 CCC after a quarterfinal loss to Inter Miami CF, but they are gearing up for the upcoming Leagues Cup tournament, aiming to secure victory together before Cherundolo’s departure.
