National Chicken, Pork, and Beef Recall: Over 70,000 Pounds of Meat Potentially Contaminated with Listeria!
In a significant health alert, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced an active recall of approximately 72,240 pounds of ready-to-eat meat products due to potential contamination with the dangerous bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall specifically affects 23 products under the Yu Shang brand, which includes a variety of meats such as pork belly, chicken legs, chicken sausage, whole chicken, and beef shank, among others. These items may have establishment numbers “P-46684” or “EST. M46684” printed on their packaging. They were widely distributed in retail stores nationwide, putting many consumers at risk.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed a link between this outbreak and 11 reported illnesses across four states: California, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. Alarmingly, this outbreak has resulted in nine hospitalizations and one death. Health officials emphasize the importance of proper food safety measures and urge anyone in possession of the affected products to dispose of them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund.
Listeriosis, the illness caused by Listeria infection, poses a particular threat to vulnerable populations, including individuals over 65, those with weakened immune systems, young children, and pregnant women. Symptoms of this infection can include fever, headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a range of gastrointestinal issues. If you start experiencing any of these symptoms after consuming any of the recalled meats, the CDC recommends consulting your healthcare provider promptly.
Stay informed and protect your health—check your freezer and refrigerator now. The potential risks associated with these recalled products are serious, and swift action could make a vital difference in safeguarding your well-being and that of your loved ones.
