Nebraska Volleyball Dominates in Record-Breaking NCAA Tournament Opener

LINCOLN, Neb. - The third-ranked Nebraska volleyball team showcased their absolute dominance in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, demolishing Florida A&M with a commanding 25-3, 25-9, 25-17 victory in front of an enthusiastic crowd of 8,702 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Friday night.

With this victory, the Huskers notched a remarkable achievement by setting a new school record for the fewest points allowed in a set (3) and a match (29) in the rally-scoring era – an impressive feat that highlights their defensive prowess. Nebraska now improves its season record to 30-2, demonstrating their ability to perform under pressure.

Leading the charge was Harper Murray, who delivered a phenomenal performance with a team-high 12 kills and a striking .440 hitting percentage. Collectively, the Huskers displayed their offensive strength, posting a .391 hitting percentage while suffocating Florida A&M (27-7) to a -.043 hitting percentage.

Contributing to this stellar performance, Andi Jackson added eight kills and three blocks, hitting an impressive .538. The Huskers effectively utilized their depth, as eight different players contributed with at least two kills throughout the match.

Bergen Reilly impressively racked up 32 assists along with 12 digs, while Lexi Rodriguez continued her climb towards a historic career milestone, accumulating 15 digs and closing in on Nebraska's career record. Meanwhile, Olivia Mauch made her mark by serving four of Nebraska's six aces, with Merrit Beason also stepping up to record two aces and five kills.

Set 1: The match kicked off with an explosive start from the Huskers, who quickly established a daunting 12-1 lead. With multiple players contributing, including Allick, Mauch, and Murray, Nebraska finished the set on a phenomenal 12-0 run, leaving the Rattlers stunned and setting a record by limiting Florida A&M to merely three points.

Set 2: The second set saw the Huskers maintain their dominance. Landfair, Blackwell, and Murray propelled their team to an early 5-2 lead, and with Jackson's powerful performance and Beason's contributions, Nebraska crushed the Rattlers 25-9, continuing to exhibit their unmatched control.

Set 3: Even in the final set, Nebraska maintained their high energy and momentum. With a series of kills from Beason and crucial blocks by Blackwell and Beason, the Huskers closed out the match with a solid 25-17 victory.
