Nick Chubb Optimistic After First Practice Since Major Knee Surgery

2024-10-03

BEREA, Ohio – In a highly anticipated return, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb expressed confidence in his recovery after participating in practice for the first time in over a year.

Following multiple surgeries on his left knee, Chubb is eager to return to the field, although he remains uncertain about when he will make his 2023 season debut.

Chubb, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, faced an extensive recovery process involving several surgical procedures. These included repairs to his medial capsule, meniscus, MCL in late September, and significant ACL reconstruction in November.

As Chubb engaged in practice on Wednesday, he reflected positively on his progress, stating, “It felt good. I’ve been doing things on my own for a while now, so I've been used to everything I've done out there. It feels good.”

Despite his positive outlook, Chubb is not expected to play in the upcoming game against the Washington Commanders this Sunday. The Browns have placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, meaning the team has a 21-day window to activate him to their 53-man roster.

When asked about his timeline for returning to game action, Chubb responded, “Whenever I feel good,” demonstrating a cautious yet determined approach to his comeback.

Throughout his career, Chubb has shown resilience in overcoming injury setbacks. Notably, during his college years at the University of Georgia, he suffered a significant knee injury that affected multiple ligaments (MCL, PCL, and LCL).

However, his philosophy seems to center on not dwelling on injury fears: “Once you get out there and you're running around, it's like you're 8 years old again. It's like riding a bike. That's not something that's in my head. You can't control that. So, I'm going to go out there and play fast.”

As he looks to regain his pre-injury form, it remains to be seen how soon Chubb will be back to his dominating self, a return many fans and teammates are eagerly awaiting.

Browns offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey emphasized that it is still too early to gauge Chubb's readiness after just one practice. The football world is on the edge of its seat as they anticipate the return of one of the NFL's premier running backs. Stay tuned for updates on Chubb's journey back to the game!
