The gaming world is buzzing with anticipation as Nintendo recently unveiled its initial lineup of games for the upcoming Switch 2, but where's our favorite plumber? Aside from the classic Mario Kart, fans were left scratching their heads over the absence of a new 3D Mario experience.

It's been quite a while since we've seen a fresh Mario title—unless you count the brief escapade in Bowser’s Fury included with Super Mario 3D World. The last major 3D installment, Super Mario Odyssey, hit consoles back in 2017, and gamers are eager for the next big adventure.

In a recent interview, CNET quizzed Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser about the Mario drought. Bowser's response was tantalizingly vague: "Stay tuned. You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform." Naturally, this has sparked excitement and speculation among fans.

Rumors are swirling about another title in the pipeline: Donkey Kong Bananza. It’s believed to be in the works by the same team behind Super Mario Odyssey, raising questions about Mario's place in this new lineup. Could Bowser’s comments indicate that Mario’s next grand adventure is already underway?

For those in need of a Mario fix before the big reveal, mark your calendars! Mario Kart World is set to launch on June 5, 2025, coinciding with the Switch 2's release. Additional exciting titles include the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Donkey Kong Bananza, Drag x Drive, Kirby Riders, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment—a partnership with Koei Tecmo.

As the gaming community eagerly awaits more details, one thing is for sure: Mario’s return is just around the corner, and fans can hardly contain their excitement!
