Long Beach Event Breaks Attendance Records!
The Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach has made history, setting an all-time attendance record in 2024. Celebrating its 50th anniversary last weekend, the event drew crowds that swelled to capacity, with expectations to exceed last year’s record of 194,000 attendees.
A New Era Under Penske Entertainment
This monumental race marked its first under the ownership of Penske Entertainment, which acquired the rights to this iconic street race just last year. Grand Prix Association of Long Beach president Jim Michaelian shared insights about the event, and Penske’s president Bud Denker left the track inspired by the dynamic atmosphere.
A Festival of Culture and Energy
Denker, who has attended the event for nearly two decades, remarked on the thrilling energy of the crowd. "Seeing people packed around the fences, eagerly watching the races... it’s a vibrant spectacle!" With a diverse and younger audience present, the festival atmosphere resonated with attendees, reflecting the rich demographics of the market.
Transformative Experience for Future Races
The incredible variety of activities – from drifting at night to engaging DJs – captivated Denker. He noted that Long Beach’s festival-like setup offers valuable lessons for other Penske events, including the Detroit Grand Prix and Iowa Speedway doubleheaders. "Long Beach has figured out how to create an amazing festival experience, and we aim to bring that energy to other races," he commented.
Looking Ahead to 2025 and Beyond
With exciting plans for the 51st Long Beach Grand Prix already in motion, Denker emphasizes his commitment to enhancing the event while respecting its established roots. "We see Long Beach as a diamond, perhaps the greatest racing event after the Indianapolis 500. We’re thrilled to invest and elevate this experience even further!"
