According to the World Health Organization, a staggering 57 million people globally grappled with dementia in 2021. Yet, experts insist that dementia isn’t an inevitable part of aging. In a groundbreaking trial, researchers from China and the US observed 33,995 participants aged 40 and up with uncontrolled hypertension across 326 rural Chinese villages. Half received intensive management for their blood pressure from community healthcare providers, affectionately known as "village doctors." This approach included access to affordable medications, personalized health coaching, and tools to monitor blood pressure at home.

The Results Are In!

After four years, only 668 participants in the intensive care group developed dementia, compared to 734 in the usual care group. This translates to a 15% reduction in dementia risk! Plus, the intensive group exhibited a 16% lower risk of cognitive impairment without dementia.
