Users of Truth Social, the controversial social media platform founded by Donald Trump, are reporting alarming losses due to a spike in online scams, with some victims reportedly losing as much as $500,000 each!

According to complaints lodged with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), it has become evident that fraudsters have descended upon Truth Social in droves, leveraging the trust of its users to carry out sophisticated scams over the past two years. Many victims are older Americans who invest their hard-earned retirement savings, falling prey to what's called “pig butchering” scams.

These con artists concoct elaborate schemes, enticing users to invest in dubious investments. Victims are often shown fake account balances that imply they are profiting, only to discover too late that their funds are nowhere to be found. A report explains how scammers create the illusion of wealth, effectively manipulating their targets into injecting even more money into these scams under false pretenses.

Take, for example, a 60-something Minnesota resident who thought they were investing wisely in cryptocurrency but ended up losing a staggering half a million dollars. The individual was repeatedly misled into paying bogus "transfer fees," convinced that their so-called "assets" were just around the corner.

Another user reported losing $170,000 after being targeted on another site before being further deceived by a scammer they met on Truth Social. The trend is that victims often receive initial outreach through the platform only to be redirected to unregulated communication channels like WhatsApp, where they are further exploited.

Additionally, romantic scams are rampant on Truth Social. One heartbroken 72-year-old shared his ordeal of being duped out of $21,000 after engaging with a so-called “beautiful” woman on the app. Alarmingly, he confessed, “I haven't told my wife about this blunder. She still doesn’t know about it.” This highlights the emotional toll these fraudulent activities take on victims, who not only suffer financially but also carry the burden of secrecy and shame.

While a spokesperson for Truth Social's parent company, Trump Media & Technology Group, insists that they maintain a proactive approach against scams and bots—claiming to have a dedicated team to root them out—the rising tide of complaints raises serious questions about the platform’s efficacy in safeguarding its users. Moreover, the situation is compounded by the recent resignation of Trump Media & Technology Group's chief operating officer, which reportedly stems from a whistleblower complaint regarding internal mismanagement and oversight.
