Spotlight on Young Talent: The Exciting 'POP KONG' Concert at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Arts Festival

2024-10-04

The highly anticipated "POP KONG" concert is set to take place during the 4th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Culture and Arts Festival on October 31 and November 1, as local and Mainland young artists take center stage to showcase their remarkable talents. This event aims to energize the music scene across the region, offering a fresh wave of creativity from the brightest young stars.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department alongside AC Orange Co Ltd, "POP KONG" will feature a stellar lineup that includes emerging singer-songwriters Monkey Sit, Zino Chan, and a Bu from Hong Kong. They will be joined by Haibhue and the Cantopop band Mover from the Mainland. Phil Lam, a celebrated singer-songwriter, will make a special guest appearance, highlighting the enchanting essence of original Chinese pop music.

The featured artists have quite an impressive pedigree. Monkey Sit, who started as a street performer, has made waves by performing at numerous prominent events, including the Hong Kong Museum of Art and the Hong Kong Pop Culture Festival. Zino Chan gained recognition for his innovative take on classic songs; notably, he reinvented Sally Yeh's "Friends or Lovers" for Hunan Satellite TV's "Endless Melody." Meanwhile, a Bu, a graduate from the Hong Kong Baptist University's Academy of Film, composed the theme song for his graduation project and has worked on music for the Hong Kong Wushu Team.

Haibhue has captivated audiences with her unique blend of nursery rhymes and contemporary music, evoking nostalgia and calmness through her melodies. Mover, a six-member band, brings an eclectic mix of genres, including pop rock, shoegaze, and alternative rock. They are gearing up for their first nationwide tour by the end of 2024, creating significant buzz in the music scene.

"POP KONG" is scheduled for 8 PM at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Studio Theatre, with tickets ranging from $200 to $300 available through URBTIX and their mobile app. Excitingly, the festival offers various discount schemes for attendees, encouraging wide participation in this cultural celebration, which marks the 35th anniversary of the Cultural Centre.

This year's festival is particularly special, as it is hosted by Hong Kong for the first time. Over 260 performances and cultural exchange activities are set to take place across the Greater Bay Area's "9+2" cities, aiming to showcase the rich cultural tapestry of the region and strengthen inter-city cultural cooperation.
