Stellantis has just dropped an electrifying bombshell regarding its innovative multi-energy vehicle platform, known as the STLA Frame. This state-of-the-art platform is not just designed for battery-electric vehicles; it’s also versatile enough to support internal combustion, hybrid, gas-extending, and hydrogen models, marking a significant evolution in automotive technology.

At the heart of the STLA Frame is its impressive bidirectional charging capability. In pure EV mode, it showcases an advanced 800-volt architecture that can deliver up to 350kW of DC fast charging. When utilizing a gas range extender (REEV), the platform switches to a 400-volt architecture, allowing for 175kW charging that adds 50 miles in the same ten-minute time frame.

Imagine driving the new Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which boasts an eye-popping 690 miles of total range thanks to the gas-powered range extender! Even battery-only performance is staggering, with 500 miles achievable for the Ram 1500 REV. Not only that, but the STLA Frame can handle heavy-duty tasks, supporting a remarkable towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload capability of 2,700 pounds.

Stellantis is aiming this powerful platform at larger vehicles, including full-sized pickup trucks and SUVs. Future models incorporating the STLA Frame include big-name Jeep SUVs and Ram trucks. However, be prepared for a slight delay, as the much-anticipated Ram 1500 Rev will not arrive until the first half of 2025, pushing back from its original late 2024 timeline. Meanwhile, another segment of Stellantis’ innovative EV initiatives, the STLA Large platform, will give rise to exciting new models like the Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona.

The manufacturer is also diversifying with different platforms aimed at various markets.
