After an overwhelming response from fans, the results of the public poll for the best Android phone of 2024 are finally in! With thousands of votes cast, it's clear that the hype surrounding Google's latest releases was not misplaced.
In a stunning victory, the Google Pixel 9 Pro has snagged the title of "Best Android Phone of 2024," edging out its larger sibling, the Pixel 9 Pro XL, by a narrow margin. The Pixel 9 series continues to impress, capturing more than 50% of the total votes across the lineup. The breakdown of the voting saw the Pixel 9 Pro leading with 23.78%, followed closely by the Pixel 9 Pro XL with 22.07% and the original Pixel 9 with a modest 6.89%. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold, a unique contender in the foldable space, managed to gather 2.99% of the votes.
However, a surprise twist came from the Sony camp, as the Xperia 1 VI garnered a respectable 12.35% of votes, landing it in third place. This phone has earned a dedicated fanbase due to its classic features, including a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card support—elements that have increasingly become scarce in the smartphone world. Despite its strengths, the Xperia series struggles with visibility and marketing, hindering its potential to capture a larger audience, particularly since it's not widely available in the U.S. market.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, another strong contender, landed in fourth place with 11.53%, showcasing Samsung's continued influence in the flagship smartphone space. It’s known for its powerful camera capabilities and vibrant display, yet it couldn’t quite secure the audience’s top choice this year.
The OnePlus 12 followed with just 4.63% of votes, indicating a significant drop-off after the top contenders. While it boasts impressive performance, it appears to have struggled to capture the same attention as the leading models. Meanwhile, the "Other" category, which received about 1.90% of votes, saw only one notable mention: the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. Despite its striking tri-fold design, its software limitations and high price tag pose challenges for mainstream adoption.
At the far end of the spectrum was the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, which received only a single vote. Its limited availability, confined to China, certainly contributed to the lack of interest in this foldable device.
As the debate over the best Android phone rages on, here are the full standings based on the public’s voting (data collected until December 22):
