Heroically, another beachgoer, Crane Cantrell, dove into the water and successfully pulled Harman's son to safety. Harman expressed immense gratitude for their bravery, stating, “(Dowdy) went in the water after my son. He’s six. (She) couldn’t get to him… Cathy (got) injured really badly.”

It has now been nearly six weeks since Dowdy was injured, and she remains in a coma. Harman emphasized the impact of her actions, stating, “I wanted to use whatever platform I have to bring awareness to what Cathy did, what Crane did. They disregarded their own safety to save my son. How do you thank people like that?”

Emergency response teams were quick to arrive at the beach, and lifeguards administered CPR to Dowdy before transporting her to a local Mayo Clinic. She has since been moved to Select Specialty Hospital in Savannah, Georgia, closer to her home.

According to updates shared by her husband Mike on the fundraising page, while her vital organs are stable, some damage has been reported in her brain.
