Ukraine has initiated a significant offensive in Russia's Kursk region, a move confirmed by the Russian defense ministry. In its assertion, the ministry stated that efforts to dismantle the Ukrainian assault groups are actively taking place. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials have hinted at a sizeable military operation underway.

Since first breaching the Kursk region last August, Ukraine has managed to gain a foothold by capturing key territories. However, in recent times, Russian forces have regained substantial ground, pushing Ukrainian troops back, but not managing to completely expel them from the area.

Early on Sunday, the Russian defense ministry reported the offensive began around 9 AM Moscow time. They claimed that Ukraine launched a counter-attack utilizing a battalion made up of two tanks, one counter-obstacle vehicle, and 12 armored fighting vehicles to thwart Russian advances in the Kursk direction.

Russian military analysts provided deeper insights into the situation, suggesting that the attack originated from Ukrainian positions in Sudzha and targeted the villages of Berdin and Bolshoye Soldatskoye—critical areas on the way to Kursk city. Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine's presidential office, proclaimed there was “good news from the Kursk region,” suggesting that Russia was facing the consequences of its actions.

The Ukrainian forces successfully intercepted 61 drones across various regions including Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zhytomyr, and Khmelnytskyy. While there were no significant direct hits, some residential areas in Kharkiv were damaged by a downed drone.
