Potential Measles Exposure in Eaton County!
EATON COUNTY, MI – A serious health alert is sweeping through Eaton County as officials investigate a suspected case of measles. Though test results are still pending, the Barry-Eaton District Health Department is taking no chances and is urging the public to be cautious.
Did You Dine Here? You Might Be at Risk!
The health department has identified two restaurants where patrons may have been exposed to this highly contagious disease: - **King Ocean Crab** on Miller Street in Lansing, visited on **April 12** from **6:30-10 p.m.** - **Bad Brads BBQ** on South Baldwin Road in Orion Township, visited on **April 13** from **4:30-7:30 p.m.**
Why Measles is NO Joke!
Measles is infamous for its contagiousness, with the virus capable of surviving in the air for up to **two hours** after an infected individual has left the space! If you’re not immune, there’s a staggering **90% chance** you could contract the illness simply by being around someone who is infected.
What Should You Do?
Dr. Julie Kehdi, the medical director of the health department, stresses the importance of swift action: "We are acting out of an abundance of caution to notify the public. Measles spreads easily and can have dire health consequences, particularly for children and those with compromised immune systems. If you think you may have been exposed, it’s crucial to check your vaccination status immediately."
Time is of the Essence!
Anyone who may have been in close contact with a potential measles case within the last **six days** is urged to seek post-exposure treatment, which could prevent illness. Those who visited Bad Brads BBQ on **April 13** should act quickly as treatment needs to begin by **Saturday, April 19**.
