In a surprising turn of events, Michigan cornerback Will Johnson found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. After waiting longer than he had hoped during the draft, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported a knee injury concern that left some teams apprehensive.
The Arizona Cardinals finally put an end to his anticipation, selecting him with the 47th overall pick. However, the rumors surrounding his knee issue sparked frustration for Johnson, who claims he feels great, with no pain or swelling to speak of.
"One of those things that motivates you more than anything else," Johnson expressed, as relayed by Darren Urban on the team’s website. "I know I’m healthy."
Last season, Johnson had his share of challenges, missing a game due to a shoulder injury and the latter part of the season with turf toe. Despite these setbacks, he remains puzzled by the sudden mention of his knee issues, hinting that perhaps the MRI results raised some eyebrows.
"They were saying things about my knee and I haven’t really dealt with it in two years, so that’s definitely frustrating," Johnson mentioned to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. "But it’s all good."
Despite missing a first-round selection that he believed was within reach, Johnson, who tallied nine interceptions and returned three for touchdowns during his time at Michigan, is eager to prove his worth.
"I’m where I need to be," he declared with confidence. "I’m happy to be a Cardinal now." Johnson's journey in Arizona is just beginning, and he's ready to capitalize on the opportunity.
