Witnessing a Celestial Event Under Challenging Conditions
Despite the odds stacked against us – with the comet hanging low in the sky, battling bright twilight – we captured an incredible image of comet C/2025 F2 SWAN, recently identified as potentially disintegrating.
Technology Meets Astronomy: The Imaging Process
This stunning image is the result of combining 8 exposures, each lasting 30 seconds. Thanks to the powerful ARTEC250 telescope, part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy, we were able to track this elusive celestial wanderer remotely.
The Conditions: Twilight and a Fuzzy Appearance
At the time of our observations, comet C/2025 F2 SWAN was only 7 degrees above the northeastern horizon, while the Sun lingered at -13.5 degrees in a brightening dawn sky. The comet appeared fuzzy and lacked a distinct central core, suggesting it might be experiencing disintegration.
What’s Next for Comet C/2025 F2 SWAN?
We're eager to take another shot at observing this comet, should the viewing conditions improve. Stay tuned for updates on this fascinating celestial event!
