In a heartfelt announcement, Malaysian-born actress Sora Ma revealed that she is now officially a Singaporean citizen. This milestone, which she shared on Instagram on April 16, comes amidst a backdrop of personal challenges.
At 41, and just weeks away from giving birth, Sora reflected on her decision. "My girlfriend, Karen, suggested that I consider changing my citizenship to better manage my child's future affairs," she recalled.
Sora welcomed her son, Skye, now nine months old, in August of last year. Tragically, her husband, a businessman known only as Mr. R, passed away unexpectedly two months prior to Skye's birth.
Initially hesitant about the idea of citizenship, Sora found Karen's suggestion to be a crucial wake-up call, especially as she faced the daunting task of single parenthood.
Determined to make the change, Sora reached out to her Member of Parliament, Dr. Koh Poh Koon, expressing her desire via email. "I remember sending my message on a Saturday at 7:06 AM, and to my amazement, I received a response within 40 minutes. He had even replied from his phone!" she marveled.
After submitting her application and preparing her documents, Sora visited Dr. Koh's office a couple of weeks later. To her surprise, her citizenship was approved much quicker than she had anticipated.
On January 22, 2025—coincidentally her birthday—she received her pink identity card, marking a significant new chapter in her life.
"A new birthday, a new beginning! Life may throw challenges my way, but I embrace each step forward with hope and gratitude," Sora expressed.
With this new status, Sora Ma truly feels at home in Singapore, ready to navigate the future with her son by her side.
