Anuvu Celebrates Successful Launch of MicroGEO Satellites: A New Era for In-Flight Connectivity

In a groundbreaking achievement, Anuvu has successfully launched its first two Ku-band MicroGEO satellites, NuView-A and NuView-B, into orbit at 12 a.m. Eastern Time on December 29, carried by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. This monumental event marks a significant step forward in Anuvu's mission to enhance inflight connectivity services across North America and the Caribbean.

The satellites, created by Astranis, are set to revolutionize in-flight internet services with a focus on providing free Wi-Fi for passengers, particularly for their client, Southwest Airlines. This move aligns with the airline's strategic goal of transforming its customer experience by delivering complimentary internet access onboard.

John Gedmark, CEO of Astranis, announced on social media, “Great news — we have acquired and established command authority over all four spacecraft.” This mission, part of the larger Astranis 'From One to Many' initiative, sees NuView-A and NuView-B join two other MicroGEO satellites already deployed, all launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

SpaceX had previously delayed the launch, with a scrubbed attempt on December 21, underscoring the meticulous planning involved in these high-stakes missions.

Anuvu's CEO, Josh Marks, expressed his excitement on LinkedIn, stating, “NuView Alpha and Bravo, our Astranis MicroGEO satellites, are in space! Congratulations to Astranis Space Technologies and SpaceX for their commitment to safety.” He also highlighted the teamwork that made the launch a reality, thanking key players from both Anuvu and Astranis for their contributions.

Looking ahead, Marks noted that the new satellites are expected to enter service in 2025, paving the way for an enhanced passenger experience. During a recent webinar organized by Via Satellite, Southwest Airlines’ Matthew Kiesel elaborated on their commitment to free onboard Wi-Fi. He emphasized that the enhancements in infrastructure and bandwidth are crucial for achieving this goal.
