Apple Sets New Environmental Standards

In a groundbreaking announcement just ahead of Earth Day, Apple has achieved a monumental milestone in environmental sustainability, boasting over a 60% reduction in global greenhouse gas emissions since 2015. This achievement is a key component of Apple’s ambitious goal to become carbon neutral across its entire operation by 2030.

Recycling with a Reward!

In celebration of this progress, Apple is inviting customers to recycle their old devices in-store, offering a special 10% discount on accessories until May 16 for those who participate. This initiative not only promotes recycling but also underscores Apple’s commitment to a greener future.

Real Progress: Innovations and Commitment

Apple shared these significant milestones in its latest Environmental Progress Report. 'We’re incredibly proud of our strides toward Apple 2030. We’re utilizing more clean energy and recycled materials than ever while actively working to preserve our planet,' stated Lisa Jackson, Apple’s VP of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives.

The Impact of Clean Energy

As part of its strategy, Apple has facilitated the transition to 100% renewable energy for its suppliers, now amounting to a remarkable 17.8 gigawatts globally. These efforts have helped avoid around 21.8 million metric tons of greenhouse gases in just the past year, marking a substantial increase in environmental responsibility.

Cleaner Semiconductor Production: A Key Focus

Apple is also tackling the significant impact of industrial processes in semiconductor and display manufacturing, which traditionally contribute to high levels of fluorinated greenhouse gases. Apple has announced commitments from 26 of its semiconductor suppliers to reduce F-GHG emissions by 90% by 2030, extending its ripple effect of sustainability beyond its own facilities.

Pioneering Recycling and Renewable Material Use

The tech giant is edging closer to its 2025 goals of integrating 100% recycled rare earth elements and cobalt in its products, with current figures reported at 99%. This not only reduces waste but also maintains high standards of product quality.

Leading the Zero Waste Movement

Apple’s Zero Waste program has redirected around 600,000 metric tons of waste from landfills in 2024 alone, bringing the total to 3.6 million metric tons since launching in 2015—equivalent to saving approximately 4.5 million square meters of landfill space.

Eco-Friendly Products Redefining Industry Standards

In its latest product lineup, Apple has introduced the MacBook Air with over 55% recycled content, the highest percentage of any Apple product to date, and carbon-neutral options for new Mac mini and Apple Watch models, showcasing a commitment to sustainability.

Water Conservation Efforts

Apple's Supplier Clean Water Program has successfully saved over 90 billion gallons of fresh water since 2013. With an impressive participation rate of 42% among suppliers last year, this initiative also targets replenishing 100% of water withdrawals in high-stress areas by 2030.
