PAP's Henry Kwek Set to Defend Kebun Baru SMC!
SINGAPORE – In a bold move, Henry Kwek of the People’s Action Party (PAP) has announced his decision to recontest the Kebun Baru Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the highly anticipated General Election 2025.
During a spirited speech at the PAP branch office in Teck Ghee, Kwek laid out three key priorities aimed at uplifting the lives of Kebun Baru residents: tackling the rising cost of living, promoting healthy longevity, and equipping the community for future job transformations.
Kwek passionately stated, “We’ve injected a renewed spirit into Kebun Baru through over a dozen impactful social programs, driven by hundreds of dedicated volunteers, positively affecting thousands of lives. But our journey is just beginning; the best is yet to come!”
A Proven Track Record and Strong Competition Ahead!
At 48, Mr. Kwek boasts an impressive career, serving as the executive director of a trading and consulting firm, as well as heading a boutique investment company.
Kebun Baru SMC, carved out from the Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in 2020, witnessed Kwek's success during the last election, where he secured a resounding 62.92% of the votes against Kumaran Pillai from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP).
In 2025, Kebun Baru will see a slight adjustment in polling boundaries, welcoming an influx of new voters from Yio Chu Kang SMC, bringing the total electorate to 22,223.
Meet the Challenger: Tony Tan!
As Kwek prepares for battle, he’s likely to face stiff competition from Tony Tan of the PSP. At 55, Tan has an intriguing background, having previously contested in Chua Chu Kang GRC under the National Solidarity Party in 2011, where his team fell short against the PAP.
An engineer by training and a Singapore Armed Forces scholarship recipient, Tan co-founded a private education and gaming firm. He’s also well-connected within the PSP, being married to Hazel Poa, the party’s first vice-chairperson.
