SINGAPORE: Attention Singapore residents! Starting January 14 through October 31, households with a monthly income per person of up to S$1,800 can apply for public transport vouchers (PTVs) worth S$60. This initiative is aimed at alleviating the financial strain caused by the recent fare increase in public transportation.
In a recent announcement from the Ministry of Transport and the People’s Association, it was noted that those who did not receive PTVs in 2024 are now eligible to apply. You can submit your applications online or visit your local community clubs. Additionally, if your household needs extra support and doesn't meet the income criterion, there is an appealing process available, whether online or in person at community centers.
After applying, residents who received a PTV notification letter can easily redeem their vouchers using the SimplyGo app, at any SimplyGo kiosk, or at various service points throughout the city. Each eligible household is entitled to one PTV, which can be used to replenish fare cards or purchase monthly public transport passes. These vouchers are valid until March 31, 2026, giving you plenty of time to take advantage of this offer.
This new round of vouchers follows a previous distribution phase completed in December 2023, where about 270,000 households received either physical or digital letters notifying them about their voucher eligibility based on the earlier criteria. It’s noteworthy that this current voucher amount is a bump from S$50 distributed last year for households earning up to S$1,600 per person monthly. The updated eligibility criteria potentially extend benefits to an additional 60,000 households!
This voucher program comes in the wake of an increase in public transport fares which took effect on December 28, 2023. Adult passengers now face a 10-cent rise per bus or train ride as part of a broader 6% fare hike. Furthermore, concessionary fare holders—including seniors, students, those with disabilities, and low-wage workers—will see a 4-cent increase per journey.
Don't miss this opportunity to ease your transport costs! Check your eligibility now and apply before the October deadline. For any questions, feel free to approach your local community clubs for assistance.
