Changi Airport Terminal 2 Crowned One of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports for 2024
SINGAPORE: Yet another feather in the cap for The Little Red Dot as Changi Airport's Terminal 2 secures a spot on the esteemed Prix Versailles list of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports for 2024.
Recently revamped, Terminal 2 reopened in November 2022 after a significant redesign that began in 2021, embracing a stunning nature-themed ambiance that captivates visitors. The crown jewel of this terminal is arguably The Wonderfall, a breathtaking digital waterfall that cascades amidst lush greenery, creating an enchanting and tranquil experience for travelers.
Since the inception of the Prix Versailles awards in 2015, the initiative honors exceptional design and architectural prowess globally. Previous awardees include notable airports like Santiago, Chile’s Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport in China.
This year, along with Changi Airport Terminal 2, the winners also included Boston Logan International Airport Terminal, Kansas City International Airport, Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, Felipe Ángeles International Airport in Mexico, and Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Midfield Satellite Terminal 1.
The airports will compete against awardees across other categories for the coveted 2024 World Titles (Prix Versailles, Interior, and Exterior), with winners to be unveiled at UNESCO Headquarters on December 2.
Renowned French firm BOIFFILS Architectures is behind the innovative redesign of Terminal 2. Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of Prix Versailles, emphasized the growing importance of airports as cultural hubs that shape travelers’ first impressions and encourage respectful tourism. He noted, “Airports play an important cultural role, turning into exemplars of their destinations.”
In addition, the appreciation for Changi Airport doesn't stop at the Prix Versailles. Last month, readers of the UK-based Condé Nast Traveller voted Changi Airport the Best Airport in the World in their 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards. Scoring an impressive 93.61, Changi outpaced Doha’s Hamad International Airport, which received a score of 91.90, reinforcing Changi’s status as a global travel favorite.
With its commitment to enhancing travelers' experiences through innovative design and a focus on cultural heritage, Changi Airport continues to redefine the standards of airport architecture and hospitality.
