Singapore: It seems Singapore's Changi Airport just cannot stop garnering accolades for its splendid design and visitor experience! In a recent announcement, Terminal 2 of Changi Airport was named one of the winners in the Prix Versailles' prestigious list of the World’s Most Beautiful Airports for 2024.
This recognition comes on the heels of an impressive redesign that wrapped up in November 2022, following extensive renovations initiated in 2021. The transformation revolves around a nature-inspired theme, making it a breath of fresh air in the bustling travel landscape.
One of the terminal's standout features is "The Wonderfall," a stunning digital waterfall that cascades among lush greenery, creating an enchanting and tranquil atmosphere for passengers. This innovative display is not only a feast for the eyes but also serves as a relaxing backdrop for travelers, establishing the terminal as a serene escape before embarking on their journeys.
The Prix Versailles awards have recognized exceptional design and architecture globally since 2015, with past winners including some remarkable airports like Santiago's Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. This year, Terminal 2 joined the ranks alongside Boston Logan International Airport Terminal, Kansas City International Airport, Abu Dhabi’s Zayed International Airport, and Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport’s Midfield Satellite Terminal 1.
The competition doesn't end there. The winners in the airport category will compete for the ultimate titles of the Prix Versailles, as well as additional categories for interior and exterior design. The final winners will be revealed at a ceremony on December 2 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
Jérôme Gouadain, Secretary General of the Prix Versailles, highlighted the evolving role of airports in tourism, stating, "Airports are responsible for visitors’ first impressions, each one is a poster child for its destination." He emphasized the importance of cultural representation in airport design, which can encourage a deeper appreciation of a location's heritage and contribute to sustainable tourism.
In addition to these awards, Changi Airport recently topped the Readers’ Choice Awards conducted by Condé Nast Traveler, where it was voted the Best Airport in the World by 575,048 magazine readers. Scoring an impressive 93.61, Changi Airport outperformed Doha's Hamad International Airport, which secured second place with 91.90 points.
As Changi Airport continues to set benchmarks in design and experience, travelers around the globe can expect this renowned airport to lead the way in redefining what it means to travel in style and comfort. So, if you're planning a trip, don't miss the chance to witness the charm of Changi's Terminal 2 for yourself!
