As Singapore's festive season approaches, Christmas market vendors and organisers are preparing for a typical challenge of the year-end monsoon: wet weather. According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the city-state can expect thundery showers across various regions in the afternoons on multiple days this week.

Despite the forecast of widespread rain that may linger into the evening on select days, Christmas market operators remain optimistic about welcoming visitors. Traditional festive attractions, including The Great Christmas Village at Ngee Ann City mall, may appear less crowded due to the rain, but many operators believe the holiday spirit will prevail.

Mr. Eddy Goh, managing director of events management firm J'Kids Amusement, stated, “The year-end monsoon is a fact of life, but it doesn’t affect our business negatively.” He noted that rain often leads visitors into nearby malls, creating an opportunity for them to return outdoors once the downpour subsides.

While some events may lack contingency plans, others are well-prepared for inclement weather. For instance, food truck vendors, like those from Artyzen Hotel, reported that the rain hasn't significantly impacted their sales. Jeff Crowe, general manager of Artyzen Singapore, stated that their food trucks are equipped with awnings, allowing them to maintain a comfortable environment for customers.

At the World Christmas Market in Marina Bay, event organisers have proactively provided shelters for all booths to ensure vendors and patrons can enjoy the festivities regardless of the weather. CEO Mr. Nick Tan of Oceanus Media Global remarked on the importance of creating a joyful atmosphere, “We are still focusing on the outdoor experiences that resonate with the magic of Christmas.”

The festive spirit remains evident despite the weather. Families continue to enjoy the markets, drawn by the allure of holiday cheer. One visitor expressed, “Even though it's raining, I still like to come here because it’s Christmas.”

As we approach the end of December, the MSS predicts that the rainfall intensity may lessen toward the year’s close, providing opportunities for families to gather and partake in festive activities. So, brace yourselves for some holiday fun, rain or shine!
