Citi Prestige Card Shocks Users: Major Changes to Complimentary Travel Insurance Coverage!
In surprising news for Citi Prestige Cardholders, the bank has announced a drastic change to its complimentary travel insurance policies. Until now, cardholders enjoyed dual insurance coverage: one from Citi itself and another provided by Mastercard through AIG. However, starting February 28, 2025, Citi will eliminate its own insurance policy, raising concerns about the adequacy of coverage going forward.
Currently, when cardholders purchase air tickets using their Citi Prestige Card or redeem frequent flyer miles and pay associated taxes with the card, they benefit from two insurance policies. This means that if one policy falls short, the other could potentially fill in the gaps, which is a great feature for travelers worried about unexpected expenses like medical bills, flight delays, or loss of luggage.
What You Need to Know About the Changes
As of February 28, 2025, the Citi-provided insurance underwritten by HLAS will be discontinued. After this date, travelers can only submit claims to AIG under the Mastercard policy.
If your trip concludes before the cutoff date, you can still claim from both insurers.
The two policies differ in coverage limits and benefits; here’s a quick look:
| Coverage Type | HLAS Coverage | AIG Coverage | |-----------------------------------|---------------------|----------------------| | Accidental Death & Permanent Disablement | S$1,000,000 | US$500,000 | | Overseas Medical Expenses | S$50,000 | US$500,000 | | Emergency Medical Evacuation | S$100,000 | US$500,000 | | Repatriation of Mortal Remains | S$50,000 | US$500,000 | | Hospital Cash Benefit | N/A | US$100/day | | Baggage Loss | S$1,000 | US$3,000 | | Flight Delay | S$400 | US$500 | | Trip Cancellation | N/A | Up to US$7,500 |
