In a bold statement that has piqued the interest of gamers worldwide, Masaaki Hayasaka, the producer behind the recently released Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, has expressed a desire to see Final Fantasy 6 receive the same stunning HD-2D treatment. While Final Fantasy 6 underwent its own enhancements in the 2023 Pixel Remaster, Hayasaka believes this iconic RPG deserves even more recognition and flair.

The Dragon Quest 3 remake has garnered substantial acclaim since its launch last week, particularly for its reinvigorated pixel art that pays homage to the signature style introduced with Octopath Traveler. This unique approach, which fuses classic 2D pixel art with modern graphical techniques, has become a hallmark of Square Enix's recent releases.

In an interview with Inverse, Hayasaka noted, "It's not that we have concrete plans for this, but personally I would have to say Final Fantasy VI. The development of Octopath Traveler was heavily influenced by FFVI, as it showcased the highest quality pixel art. I would love to see how the game we referenced would look with the HD-2D art style."

Moreover, Hayasaka touched on the compatibility of the HD-2D style with retro games. "This art style itself was created while referencing such titles, making it highly compatible with games originally made using pixel art. This may be why people feel this style is a match made in heaven with these types of remakes," he explained.

However, he also cautioned fans to temper their expectations. The distinctive art style requires a "higher sense of artistic sensibility," which may pose challenges in its execution.

Hayasaka has voiced enthusiasm for pursuing more HD-2D remakes in the future. Nonetheless, he hinted at concerns regarding possible market saturation, noting that Square Enix has released an impressive nine related titles within just seven years.

Ultimately, the Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is currently available across multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. As gamers continue to embrace these revitalized classics, the question remains: will Final Fantasy 6 be the next beloved game to receive the HD-2D makeover? Fans can only hope that the adaptation of their cherished RPG is just around the corner!
