SINGAPORE – In an exciting development for residents, Tampines GRC MP Desmond Choo has expressed a deep desire to remain in his newly designated Tampines Changkat Single Member Constituency (SMC) in the forthcoming 2025 elections.

Choo emphasized that serving in a SMC enables him to devote more personalized attention to local residents, unlike in larger group representation constituencies where broader responsibilities come into play. "I’ve been here for a decade. If given the chance, I want this to be my home in politics," he declared passionately.

The grassroots support has been overwhelming, with residents urging him to stay. "Many have approached me to express their hopes for my continued presence here, and I aim to honor that trust," he added.

While the People's Action Party (PAP) has not yet finalized its candidates for both Tampines GRC and the new Tampines Changkat SMC, Mr. Choo is optimistic about his future in the constituency.

Addressing the media on April 13 after a launch event with Tampines Town Council and SBS Transit, Choo, who also serves as the Mayor of the North East district, shared community updates during a lively interaction at a local coffee shop.

He unveiled enhancements like improvements to the bus service 292 and introduced community fridges located across Tampines Changkat. Residents also got a sneak peek at the stylish new public benches made from refurbished MRT seats, which will be rolled out across 169 locations by 2026.

After some residents raised concerns about the quality of services following the separation of Tampines Changkat from the GRC, Choo reassured them, stating, "Quality will remain the same, and I believe it will even improve."

In a twist of community interest, Choo addressed the entry of former army chief David Neo into the PAP's Tampines GRC team, who he confirmed has been well-received in the area. Choo believes Neo can be a key asset due to his friendly approach and accessibility during outreach efforts.
