In a bold move ahead of the 2025 General Election, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong has unveiled a revamped team for Ang Mo Kio GRC, featuring fresh faces that promise to energize the political landscape.

Joining SM Lee in his mission are former civil servant Jasmin Lau and veteran politician Victor Lye, both of whom bring a wealth of experience and distinct backgrounds to the table. This diverse lineup marks a refreshing shift as they replace long-standing incumbents Ng Ling Ling and Gan Thiam Poh, who are stepping aside.

When asked about his future, the 73-year-old leader acknowledged that retirement is inevitable. He affirmed, 'As long as I’m deemed useful, I will continue to serve. The final decision lies with the Prime Minister.'

Jasmin Lau, aged 42, comes to the team with a robust background in the Health Ministry, where she spearheaded initiatives related to healthcare financing and manpower policies. A former netball representative for Singapore, Lau believes her experiences in team sports have prepared her for the collaborative nature of politics. 'This transition feels much like moving from netball to basketball; it’s about leveraging foundational skills in a new role,' she remarked.

Victor Lye, 63, is no stranger to the world of politics. As a former contestant for Aljunied GRC, he brings resilience and a passion for community service. Now the CEO of an AI-driven fintech firm, Lye states, 'I’ve been dedicated to earning the trust of our community, not just during elections but continuously thereafter.' His determined attitude suggests he'll be a strong asset in the upcoming campaign.

Ang Mo Kio GRC: A Political Powerhouse

With a substantial electorate of over 161,000, Ang Mo Kio GRC is Singapore's largest GRC, poised for an exciting electoral battle. The PAP previously secured a resounding 71.9% of the votes in the last election against the Reform Party, but with opposition dynamics shifting, a three-cornered contest is shaping up for the May 3 polls.
