PAP Introduces New Team for Sembawang GRC
In a buzzworthy reveal, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung took to social media on April 21 to announce the People’s Action Party (PAP) lineup for Sembawang GRC, showcasing two promising newcomers.
A captivating video shared on Ong's Facebook features him alongside current Members of Parliament Vikram Nair and Mariam Jaafar, with the spotlight on new candidates Gabriel Lam and Ng Shi Xuan. The video, aptly titled "5 individuals, 1 team. A Sembawang for Everyone," hints at a dynamic change.
New Faces with Ambitious Goals
While Ong hinted at the team's potential, he stopped short of confirming their candidacy for the upcoming elections. Lam, 42, and Ng, 35, were previously introduced during a community initiative and are now positioned as key figures in the GRC.
Lam, COO of Shalom International Movers, has deep roots in Sembawang, having moved there in 1988. He emphasized his dedication to uplifting lives in the community. Meanwhile, Ng, a seasoned public servant and former vice-chairman of the MacPherson Youth Network, passionately stated, "You don’t know me, but I fight hard for the community," showcasing his commitment by engaging with residents in the video.
Farewell to an Esteemed Leader?
Notably absent from the video is the incumbent MP Lim Wee Kiak, who recently received accolades at a local event but has not formally announced his retirement. He encouraged residents to support his possible successor, Ng Shi Xuan.
Financially savvy, both Lam and Ng are described by Ong as part of a "dynamic duo" that brings invaluable experience from running small to medium-sized enterprises, ready to meet the challenges of competitive industries.
Upcoming Election Highlights
As the political landscape heats up, Sembawang GRC is poised for a three-way battle, with the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) and National Solidarity Party (NSP) also gearing up for a fight. The PAP recorded a robust 67.29% victory in the 2020 General Election, but with fresh energy entering the race, the stakes have never been higher.
Closing his announcement, Ong urged the community to come together, stating, "It takes time to truly know someone, through their actions, not words. Let’s do this together, shall we?" The excitement around Sembawang GRC is palpable, marking the dawn of a new era in local governance.
