Faisal Manap Takes on Tampines GRC!
In a strategic and personal move, the Workers' Party (WP) has officially announced that long-serving Aljunied GRC MP Faisal Manap will be contesting in the highly contested Tampines GRC in the upcoming 2025 General Election. WP chief Pritam Singh revealed this decision was not just a tactical choice, but also one that aligns with Faisal’s long-held aspirations.
A Long-Awaited Opportunity
"He has always wanted to contest in Tampines GRC," Singh stated, highlighting that Faisal has persistently campaigned for this opportunity for quite some time. "He succeeded, and he is proud to lead the WP Tampines team." This change marks a significant shift as the party aims to solidify its presence in the constituency.
Building a Strong Team
Faisal leads a formidable five-member team that includes notable candidates such as Jimmy Tan, co-founder of Immanuel Engineering; Ong Lue Ping, a senior psychologist at the Institute of Mental Health; former diplomat Eileen Chong; and technology innovator Michael Thng, co-founder of Showdrop. Singh expressed confidence that they are the best candidates prepared to face the competition.
Thrusting into the Political Arena
The upcoming election will see a heated showdown as WP takes on the People’s Power Party and the National Solidarity Party, while the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) is led by Social and Family Development Minister Masagos Zulkifli. Singh remarked, "In a democracy, anyone can contest. I respect all parties participating in this race."
A Broader Strategy for WP
Beyond Tampines, the WP is gearing up to unveil a total of 26 candidates across eight constituencies, including contested firsts in Punggol GRC, Jalan Kayu SMC, and Tampines Changkat SMC. Singh will lead the defense of Aljunied GRC while also challenging PAP for control of East Coast GRC.
Exciting Head-to-Head Battles!
Challenging incumbents will be no small feat. Young gun Andre Low, 33, takes on NTUC's Ng Chee Meng in Jalan Kayu SMC, while Kenneth Foo, 48, faces off against Desmond Choo in Tampines GRC. Singh called Andre "a very capable man" and anticipates his notable contributions in Parliament.
An Eventful Election Ahead!
As the election date looms, Singh noted that changes within the PAP's constituency line-ups were expected, signaling a dynamic political landscape. Leadership shifts, including Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong moving to Punggol GRC, have intensified the competition.
Singh concluded with a nod to the challenges ahead: "It’s going to be tough, and we respect our opponents. The team is determined to give it their all!" With the WP preparing for intense battles, the stakes in the 2025 elections have never been higher!
