SINGAPORE – In a shocking incident that's turned heads, a 20-year-old man is set to be charged on Tuesday (Apr 22) for allegedly molesting a female cabin crew member during a flight to Singapore.
The incident occurred on February 28, when the Singapore Police Force was alerted around 12:05 PM. Initial investigations revealed that the victim, a 28-year-old flight attendant, was escorting a female passenger to the lavatory.
As she bent down to pick up a piece of tissue on the floor, the male suspect reportedly snuck up behind her, forcefully pushing her into the lavatory with him.
Fortunately, a vigilant female passenger witnessed the harrowing act and immediately intervened to assist the victim. Upon landing at Changi Airport, the cabin supervisor was promptly informed, leading to the man's arrest by the Airport Police Division.
The suspect is facing charges for outrage of modesty. If convicted, he could be looking at a prison sentence of up to three years, a hefty fine, or even corporal punishment—the law is clear and firm against such acts.
Assistant Commissioner M Malathi, commander of the Airport Police Division, emphasized the seriousness with which these incidents are treated, pointing out that flight crew are trained professionals committed to the safety and comfort of all passengers.
"We will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment or assault on our airline staff or passengers," she stated. Such strong enforcement is critical as the Singapore Police strive to maintain a safe environment both in the air and on the ground.
