SINGAPORE - A Groundbreaking Move for Public Transportation
SBS Transit has announced the launch of Singapore’s very first express feeder service, designated as Service 298X. This service will officially hit the roads on December 9, aiming to significantly reduce commuting times for residents living in Tampines North and Tampines West.
A Faster Route to Tampines Town Centre
Residents in the area have long anticipated a faster route to the bustling Tampines town centre and its transport hub, and the new Service 298X promises to deliver just that. The service will run on weekdays during peak hours—excluding public holidays—and will cater to 15 selected bus stops along a more streamlined route compared to its parent service, Service 298.
Part of the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme
This initiative is part of the Bus Connectivity Enhancement Programme (BCEP), launched by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in July 2023, with a staggering S$900 million earmarked for enhancements between 2024 and 2032. These funds will focus on buying new buses, upgrading infrastructure, and introducing new bus services that better meet the needs of commuters.
Benefits of the Express Feeder Concept
The express feeder concept aims to serve residents who live farther away from major transport nodes and town centres. Unlike regular feeders, express services reduce travel time by taking more direct routes with fewer stops. For Service 298X, passengers will only encounter select bus stops along Tampines Ave 4 and Tampines Ctrl 1.
Community Excitement and Anticipation
Residents have openly expressed excitement about this new service on various social media platforms. A local Reddit user praised the announcement, stating, “Finally! The regular Service 298 takes a huge detour, making it unbearable at peak hours. This express feeder will make such a difference!”
A Commitment to Efficient Commuting
The introduction of Service 298X represents a significant step forward in improving public transport infrastructure in Singapore, marking a commitment to making commuting more efficient for residents of Tampines.
