Exciting New Faces in the Political Arena

As Singapore gears up for the high-stakes general election on May 3, the People’s Alliance for Reform (PAR) has made a buzz with the announcement of two dynamic candidates.

Meet the Candidates: A Nurse and an Educator

Introducing Ms. Sarina Abu Hassan, a 54-year-old nurse with an impressive 35 years of experience at Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Alongside her is Mr. Nadarajan Selbamani, or Mani, aged 59, who has dedicated himself as a director at a private school. Both were unveiled by PAR’s secretary-general Lim Tean during a lively market walkabout at Jalan Batu.

Championing Healthcare and Education Initiatives

Sarina, a recent recruit from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP), expresses her deep commitment to enhancing Singapore’s healthcare system and campaigning for free meals for children in schools. She’s determined to share her extensive knowledge and experience to drive meaningful change.

Meanwhile, Mani is passionate about advocating for better housing policies and free education in Singapore. His journey with the People’s Voice (PV) began in 2018, and he’s eager to step into the spotlight to make an impact.

A Diverse Lineup of Candidates

The PAR team grows stronger with the addition of businessman Kumar Appavoo and commercial banker Prabu Ramachandran. Kumar, who previously ran for office in the 2011 General Election, and Prabu, a seasoned campaigner from a previous role at RP, are committed to raising the profile of issues affecting everyday Singaporeans.

Strategic Moves as the Election Approaches

PAR, comprised of three parties—PV, RP, and the Democratic Progressive Party—is preparing to field a total of 14 candidates across the electoral landscape. While the exact constituencies are yet to be confirmed, speculation suggests Sarina could contest in Mountbatten SMC, previously held by the retiring Lim Biow Chuan.

A Clash of Candidates?

Adding another layer of intrigue is the entry of maritime lawyer Gho Sze Kee as the PAP’s new face for Mountbatten, and the independent candidacy of Jeremy Tan, who cheekily brands himself as Singapore’s first ‘bitcoin candidate.’ Lim Tean has expressed skepticism about independent candidates' chances, urging Tan to align with a party for a serious campaign.

The Political Landscape is Heating Up!

As the election date nears, the political climate is charged with anticipation. With new faces and invigorated prospects, how will these candidates shape the future of Singapore? Stay tuned as the race unfolds!
