In a bold statement during a campaign event in Potong Pasir, the Secretary-General of the People's Alliance for Reform (PAR), Lim Tean, dismissed concerns about his ongoing legal issues, asserting his reputation as a "renowned lawyer."

Amidst his walkabout on April 25, he encouraged voters not to be swayed by negative publicity surrounding him. "I ask voters not to be distracted by any of all those smears that may be levelled against me," Lim affirmed.

Recently, Lim received a six-week prison sentence along with a S$1,000 (approximately US$760) fine for practicing law without a valid certificate, a conviction he plans to appeal. Additionally, he is confronting four more charges, including criminal breach of trust and unlawful stalking, which are currently pending.

However, he reassured his supporters that his legal troubles do not disqualify him from running for a parliamentary seat, as the laws state an individual must incur a fine of at least S$10,000 or be imprisoned for at least a year for such disqualification to apply.

Lim, 60, confidently declared that these allegations are not new, having persisted since before the last general election in 2020. "I am still standing strong, and I will be here every day fighting for the residents of Potong Pasir," he passionately stated.

In his bid for the Potong Pasir Single Member Constituency (SMC), Lim faces competition from the People’s Action Party (PAP) candidate Alex Yeo and Williamson Lee from the Singapore People’s Party.
