In an impressive rise that has stunned the tech world, Google’s Gemini AI chatbot has skyrocketed to over 350 million users globally as of March 2025.
This remarkable growth was highlighted during the ongoing US antitrust trial against Google, which is currently facing serious allegations regarding its overwhelming control of the search market.
Daily active users of Gemini have dramatically surged to over 35 million, a jaw-dropping increase from just nine in October 2024.
Much of this surge can be attributed to its seamless integration with popular devices like Samsung smartphones as well as Google Workspace and Chrome. Furthermore, Google has launched enhanced versions of the chatbot—Gemini 2.0 and Gemini 2.5—within the past year, significantly boosting its functionality.
However, despite its impressive climb, Gemini still lags behind competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s AI assistant, which boast a staggering 600 million and 500 million monthly active users, respectively.
Out of the courtroom, the trial has revealed that Google pays substantial amounts to Samsung for pre-installing Gemini on its devices, leading to further scrutiny over the tech giant's market practices.
The current stage of the trial centers on potential repercussions for Google, especially after a 2024 ruling found its search engine to be operating as an illegal monopoly.
