What you need to know

The excitement is building for Samsung’s highly anticipated Galaxy S25 series, which is rumored to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Recent leaks suggest a thrilling possibility: Samsung could be deploying an overclocked version of this chip, reminiscent of the 'for Galaxy' iterations seen in previous flagship models.

Recent findings from the Geekbench 6 database have revealed scores associated with the international model of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, as reported by GSMArena. While the benchmark scores may not seem stellar when compared to other Snapdragon 8 Elite devices like the Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro, there is a noteworthy detail – the clock speeds appear to be higher.

Digging into the Geekbench 6 results, it was noted that two of the Snapdragon 8 Elite's cores are clocked at an impressive 4.47 GHz, surpassing the standard 4.32 GHz speed. Meanwhile, the other six cores remain at a stable 3.53 GHz. This spike in clock speed implies that Samsung might indeed provide an overclocked variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite in its Galaxy S25 lineup.

The slightly lower benchmark results can likely be attributed to the early pre-release hardware and software used during testing. It’s expected that the final performance metrics for the Galaxy S25 Ultra will surpass these initial numbers. Moreover, it's noteworthy that the tested unit boasted 12GB of RAM, with a potential 16GB version offering even swifter performance options down the line.

While these benchmark leaks strongly hint that Samsung is working to enhance the Snapdragon 8 Elite for the Galaxy S25 series, it’s not set in stone. This could very well be early testing to ensure that the overclocked version aligns with Samsung's rigorous quality standards. However, with the launch of the Galaxy S25 series expected to occur this month, these hints of an overclocked chip are increasingly likely to be part of Samsung's strategy.

What’s more, regardless of whether the Snapdragon 8 Elite gets an overclocking boost, this new chip is projected to outperform its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, significantly. Rumors have also suggested that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite will be rolled out across all markets for the Galaxy S25 series.

Stay tuned for what could be one of the most exciting smartphone releases of the year!
