SINGAPORE:

Exciting news for commuters and travelers! The installation of the long-awaited Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) is gearing up to begin by the end of this year. This ambitious project is set to revolutionize cross-border travel between Malaysia and Singapore, and it's officially underway!

Project Details

The upcoming phase involves laying down tracks and installing critical components such as signalling systems, communication networks, integrated supervisory control, and traction power supplies. This massive undertaking is part of a collaborative effort led by Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA), Malaysia’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), and RTS Operations (RTSO).

Construction Progress

Since the connection ceremony on January 11 this year at the RTS's impressive cross-sea bridge, significant progress has been made in constructing the necessary civil infrastructure. The project includes developing stations, tunnels, viaducts, and depots—an essential framework for efficient and reliable transit.

Completion Status

On the Singapore side, over 80% of the civil works have already been completed, with the sea and land viaducts approaching completion. What remains is the finalization of roadworks, installation of electrical systems, and building essential customs facilities to ensure smooth processing for travelers.

Integration with Local Transit

One of the standout features of the RTS is its seamless integration with the Woodlands North MRT Station, which is part of the existing Thomson-East Coast MRT Line. This integration is expected to commence next year and promises to enhance passenger transfers between the new system and Singapore's robust rail network.

Progress in Malaysia

Meanwhile, our friends in Malaysia are making impressive strides too, with about 93% of their work completed. RTSO began track laying tasks as of September 30 and anticipates taking over the remaining infrastructure responsibilities by year's end.

Celebrating Milestones

To celebrate this significant project milestone, a symbolic structure has been erected at the junction of the sea viaduct. This landmark, featuring a stylized handshake design, beautifully represents the solidarity and partnership between Singapore and Malaysia in bringing the RTS to life.

Conclusion

With this state-of-the-art transit system set to launch soon, commuters can expect a transformative travel experience, reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity between two vibrant nations. Stay tuned for more updates as the RTS project continues to unfold!
