Google Photos Will Maintain Auto-Sync with Aura Frames - Here’s What You Need to Know!

In a surprising turn of events, Google Photos will continue to seamlessly sync with Aura digital photo frames, despite earlier announcements suggesting otherwise. The revelation comes as Aura's spokesperson, Jenisse Curry, confirmed to The Verge that the auto-sync feature would persist, much to the relief of many frame owners.

Originally, Google had planned to implement a new change that would restrict apps, including digital photo frames from companies like Aura and Cozyla, from auto-syncing with Google Photos libraries starting March 17th. This meant that users would have had to manually transfer new photos to their frames. However, Aura has now assured customers that they are actively collaborating with Google to keep the auto-add feature intact.

Curry stated, “We are working with Google to maintain auto-add for Google Photos on Aura. While we previously announced that this feature would be removed, it will now continue.” Current users of Aura frames can continue enjoying automatic updates without any actions required on their part for the time being.

Aura frames are designed to be cloud-connected, enabling users to easily display shared photos. For instance, they are ideal gifts for family members, allowing users to send delightful snapshots directly to their loved ones, such as ensuring grandparents stay updated with new photos of their grandchildren.

Despite the initial concerns, the Google Photos API change is still set to be implemented on March 31st. This announcement raises questions about how Aura plans to manage future auto-sync capabilities and what specific instructions will be provided to users.

Colin Smith, a spokesperson for Google, provided insight into the company's motivations for the API changes, stating: “We’re always looking for ways to update our APIs to improve user privacy, and we have APIs specifically designed for digital photo frames and a program to help our partners update their products.”
