Huge crowds are expected at the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island as the highly anticipated MENA Industrial Gases Conference commences tonight, November 18th. This year's event is set to break all previous records, attracting over 270 delegates and more than 30 exhibitors — a surge from the prior year's numbers.

This remarkable increase highlights the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region's growing significance in the energy sector, particularly as it transitions towards new energy solutions while reinforcing its position within established industrial frameworks.

Kicking off with a vibrant welcome reception, the conference will feature a packed two-day schedule exploring vital topics such as market conditions, strategies for decarbonization, and developments in helium and hydrogen production, as well as broader trends in the industrial gases market.

Prominent speakers include industry leaders like Swapnil Vichare from Global Gases Group, Matthias Kocher from Herose, and Dr. Faye Al Hersh from Masdar, poised to share invaluable insights and knowledge.

Rob Cockerill, Content Director for gasworld, emphasized the robust interest in this event, stating, "The industrial gases sector is integral to MENA economies and central to the energy transition." The region, boasting abundant renewable resources and visionary goals for sustainable development, has positioned itself as a leader in the race toward decarbonization.

Notably, Cockerill reflected on the conference's deep roots in Abu Dhabi, recalling its inception there in 2007. He noted, “We recognized MENA’s potential back then, and it has grown significantly since. Now, as we strive for Net Zero targets, MENA must play a critical role in combating climate change. Leading companies like Masdar, ADNOC, and Aramco are paving the way for this imperative.”

Despite the enthusiasm, growth in the MENA is described as 'subdued' by a recent World Bank report, which underscores that peace and stability are essential to sustainable development. The report anticipates a modest GDP growth of 2.2% in 2024, a slight increase from the 1.8% expected in 2023, led primarily by advancements within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which is projected to see growth from 0.5% to 1.9%.

Cockerill remarked on the frenetic activity spanning from Saudi Arabia to Oman in sectors such as hydrogen and ammonia, emphasizing potential developments including a new chemicals port in Abu Dhabi that was announced just last week.

The global picture looks promising too: a staggering $2 trillion is projected for clean energy infrastructure investments this year — double that of fossil fuel expenditure. This provides a solid foundation for the future, though significant challenges lie ahead in curbing emissions and developing the necessary technological support systems.

Participants can expect high-energy discussions and networking opportunities as the conference takes place in the Great Room near the hotel lobby, with exhibitor space conveniently located just a short walk away at the Yas Conference Centre.

With a dynamic agenda and a robust roster of speakers, the MENA Industrial Gases Conference is set to illuminate the pathway toward cleaner energy solutions and revolutionary developments in the industrial gases sector! Don’t miss the chance to be part of this transformative event!
