SINGAPORE: A Desperate Plea for Help

In a desperate plea for financial assistance, the family of little Jealene Caleisha Tanjaya, just two-and-a-half years old, is seeking support as she battles an extremely rare and deadly form of blood cancer known as Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia. With only one in a million children afflicted worldwide, Jealene is fighting against staggering odds.

Treatment Journey

Currently undergoing treatment at the National University Hospital, Jealene's journey took a troubling turn towards the end of 2023. Her mother, Melisa, recalls the first signs of trouble: "It started with red spots appearing on her face whenever she cried. Initially, we thought it was harmless—maybe the result of an allergy," she said. However, as the spots multiplied, her parents opted for a thorough medical examination.

In April 2024, a complete blood test revealed the shocking diagnosis of leukemia, characterized by a dangerously high white blood cell count and a low platelet count. Following this diagnosis, Jealene was referred to NUH, where doctors confirmed she was suffering from this rare and high-risk leukemia.

Urgent Treatment Needed

Desperate for a cure, Jealene’s family learned that her treatment requires urgent chemotherapy and a hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), estimated to cost over S$330,000. "Every contribution, no matter how small, is a lifeline for Jealene, helping her fight back toward a joyful life," Melisa expressed. With funds raised so far reaching approximately S$140,700, the family is urging more people to share their story and contribute to the cause.

Current Status and Next Steps

In an emotional update, Melisa announced that Jealene is set for her intensive 10th cycle of chemotherapy, covering five days, beginning on Nov 19. Furthermore, preparations are underway for a bone marrow transplant scheduled for Dec 5, with her father stepping up as the donor.

A Call for Support

As the family grapples with the emotional rollercoaster of Jealene's health crisis, they are filled with hope and gratitude for the support they have received so far. "We sincerely beg for your prayers and support during this challenging time," Melisa pleaded.
